The TANEC PRAHA 2024 Festival takes place under the auspices of the President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel.
The latest project of the contemporary dance company 420PEOPLE celebrates the intergenerational dialogue between dancers. It brings a unique yet intimate look at the pinnacle of the performers' dance careers after 42 years. As the first premiere of the 42+PEOPLE project, which brings together all the values of contemporary dance, the company presented the choreography WHERE by Václav Kuneš.
WHERE features a pair of Czech dancers aged 42+. Václav Kuneš and Helena Arenbergerová, who won the Thalia Award 2023 for her solo role in the performance, will open the pilot edition.
"Our choreographic union does not bring a common story, but plays out the intimacy of each of us in a purely personal dance statement. Without clichés. Without necessary annotations. Nevertheless, it evokes a very familiar Renaissance image full of elusive tension between stable and scattered lives, tension in the proximity of two strangers... And increasingly tangible through contemporary dance," says Václav Kuneš, choreographer, dancer and artistic director of 420PEOPLE.
Václav Kuneš is a Czech choreographer, dancer and co-founder of 420PEOPLE, of which he has been the artistic director since 2007. He graduated from the Prague Dance Conservatory in 1993. After that he was a member of Nederlands Dans Theater for 11 years, where he worked with Jiří Kylián, Ohad Naharin, William Forsythe, Paul Lightfoot, Mats Ek, Nacho Duato, Johan Inger and Hans van Manen, among others. He also worked as an assistant to J. Kylián. He has also appeared as a judge on StarDance. He is a very prominent artistic personality in the dance and cultural field in the Czech Republic and abroad.
Helena Arenbergerová graduated from two semesters of dance pedagogy at HAMU, then studied history at FFUK. She has worked as a teacher of contemporary dance in Prague dance studios, at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava, at the Prague Ballet and has also led workshops in the Czech Republic and abroad. In 2008 she received the Sazka Award for her performance Holdin' Fast, for which she was also nominated for the Thalia Award. Her solo performance Duo Para Ella/ Comida para dos won 1st place at the international competition in Masdanza, Gran Canaria. In September 2023, she won the Thalia Award for Best Female Dance Performance for 42+PEOPLE: Where.
