Tanec Praha is the leading organization of a project focused on dance dramaturgy, which has received support from the Creative Europe program for two years (2019 – 2021). For this project, we are announcing the first Open Call for Applications to participate in a series of workshops in 2020.

Terms & conditions of Open Call:
Those interested in participating in the Micro and Macro Dramaturgies in Dance project must guarantee their participation in both workshops in 2020 (15 – 25 April and first half of October 2020) as well as the final event of the project in Prague in mid-September 2021.

Together with the filled in application here include a brief cover letter in English.

The project provides an opportunity to give artists from five partner countries (the Czech Republic, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden and Cyprus) the experience of leading European dance dramaturges led by Guy Cools, each year through two 10-day workshops (in the spring and autumn) for selected pairs of artists from each country (a choreographer and their potential dramaturge), but always open to the wider professional public.

Each workshop will include a seminar with the participation of the wider art community and the last workshop in Prague will conclude with a final presentation of the outputs of the whole two-year project open to the general public.

Only professional artists are eligible for the project: mid-career choreographers who feel the need for further professional growth, and potential dance dramaturges who want to pursue this profession in the future. Choreographers can sign up together with the selected dramaturge as a pair, but also individually. The same applies to those interested in dance dramaturgy. Interest in exchanging experience in European cooperation and openness to new impulses are crucial.

The selection of creative pairs for the first year of the project will take place at a meeting of artistic directors of partner organizations at the end of October 2019 in Limassol (CY) based on an Open Call in each partner country. The workshops will take place in Italy (Polverigi / Anghiari) from 15 – 25 April 2020 and in the Netherlands (Tilburg) in the first half of October 2020.

Next year, workshops will be prepared for the five new creative pairs for spring 2021 in Sweden (Stockholm) and September 2021 in Prague.

The selection process will prioritize choreographers working on a specific new project in 2020 (for the 2nd call in 2021) and the openness by the dramaturge to cooperate on a particular project. Knowledge of English is required.
