TANEC PRAHA Festival 1993 | 20 June – 2 July 1993

The fifth annual festival was held under the auspices of President Václav Havel. Maguy Marin divided audiences at the National Theatre with Becket's famous masterpiece May B. Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Dance Comp. It did the same thing with a program that culminated in a geyser of energy – D-Man in the Waters. For the more conservative part of the audience it was a lot to swallow. S.O.A.P. Dance Theatre Frankfurt presented a work by Rui Horta, who later joined Jan Kodet for a number of year. The impulsive Brazilian from the Balé Teatro Castro Alves danced until morning in the theatre club with another distinctive choreographer Guilherme Botelho, who after working in the Geneva Ballet founded his own ensemble Alias, which would later repeatedly appear at the festival. The smaller stages belonged to Czech artists, de facto the first pioneers of the contemporary dance scene in this country.
