Rave Lucid transforms the energy of electro dance into an intense collective experience. A gripping, physically infectious rhythm draws audiences into a shared state somewhere between club ecstasy and the precision of contemporary choreography.
Electro dance - the first French urban dance style built on distinctive arm work and shaped by electro, house, and techno music - emerged in Parisian clubs in the 2000s and spread rapidly through the internet and shared videos. While the media explosion around the “Tecktonik” label turned it into a fleeting trend, the underground community continued to develop the style as a living, global culture connecting dancers across continents.
Rave Lucid is an energetic homage to this community, formed at the crossroads of club culture and dance battles. The French ensemble Mazelfreten, led by choreographers Brandon Miel Masele and Laura Nala Defretin, blends hypnotic group choreography with the raw power of freestyle, developing electro dance as a pulsating collective organism.
The choreography draws on the principles of street dance - explosiveness, escalation, and cyclical movement. Energy layers, breaks, settles, and rises again, creating an almost hypnotic effect. The group moves as a single body, its rhythm shaped by sharp accents and sudden slowdowns that feel like time momentarily suspended. Precise arm work, isolations, and strong minimalist details that break away from the whole push the body beyond conventional perceptions of movement.
Space is in constant motion: energy flows across the entire stage, forms dissolve and reassemble, and group dynamics alternate with more intimate duets marked by moments of contact and attentive listening. Music rooted in electro and techno beats is not mere accompaniment but a driving force - rhythm determines structure, tension, and direction. In the finale, energy gathers into an ecstatic climax that spills into the audience.
Rave Lucid is an outstanding gem of street dance and a powerful experience for audiences of all generations, both for connoisseurs and for those encountering this culture for the first time. It offers an intense, living surge of energy that keeps transforming, breathing, and building, remaining present in the body long after the performance ends.
WARNING: Show features very loud music and strobe light.
