TANEC PRAHA Festival 2011 | 6 – 29 June 2011

The festival was further strengthened by the addition of Markéta Perroud, who was for many years a soloist at the Lyon Opéra Ballet. While still in Lyon she first got involved in the work of the Artistic Council and planned to return to the Czech Republic. Again the festival succeeded in attracting extraordinary artists, such as Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Akram Khan. Larbi headed to China, where in a Shaolin monastery he discovered the magic of Asian movement techniques, which he perfectly combined with his own vision of contemporary dance storytelling. His Sutra simply thrilled audiences. Akram returned to his own roots in Bangladesh, perhaps not as deeply and intensely as in his later production DESH, but no less masterfully. The work Vertical Road resonated uncommonly powerfully with audiences. The program also boasted several other legends: Louise Lecavalier with Nigel Charnok and Edourd Lock were the co-creators of an extraordinary evening, Crystal Pite performed with Kid Pivot a piece in an evening with 420PEOPLE, while Zappala Danza and Granhøj Dans again succeeded in captivating audiences.
